Whether you’re passively searching for a new job or you’ve been waking up every day and filling out online applications, the job search is difficult. Here at 51 at Tradan Heights Apartments in Stillwater, we want to do whatever we can to make that search a little easier for our residents. That’s why we’ve decided to write a post about job hunting in 2018!
In the brand new blog post below, we’ll be sharing a bit of advice on applications, cover letters and the process of actually finding jobs to apply to. With so many websites out there like Indeed, LinkedIn and Glassdoor it’s easy to get lost in the job search and feel directionless. We hope that the tips in this week’s blog help you avoid that feeling!
Now that we’ve gotten the intro out of the way, let’s dive right into the list of tips below! Oh, and when you’re done reading through the list, we encourage you to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of new apartments in Stillwater.
Don’t forget about traditional job search methods
If everyone is applying to jobs online, it’s going to be that much harder for you to compete. You’re going to need a pretty impressive resume if you want to stand out in a file folder that’s filled with dozens of them. One way to avoid the competitive online process if to look for jobs in different ways. Go to networking events within your industry. Take advantage of the time before and after the event to talk with speakers and get business cards. This method takes more work than going online and applying to jobs, but it might also help you land an interview more quickly.
Pay attention to keywords
If you are going to apply to jobs online, you need to understand the ins and outs of the software that tracks applications and scans resumes. If the job description has certain words and phrases in it that are associated with your role, be sure to include those words and phrases in your resume and cover letter. Finding a new job isn’t just about making a good impression on people anymore; now you’ve got to make a good impression on the robots as well.
Get more active on LinkedIn
When a potential employer checks you out on LinkedIn, would you rather that they saw an active user or a passive user? An active user would comment on relevant posts in industry groups. They’d have a few posts of their own, and they’d have plenty of followers. A passive user wouldn’t have any of those things. Get active and impress your potential employer when they come looking!
